“Lotus Gemology believes there is purity in simplicity. It is simple to make something complex—art is removing the noise, allowing one to focus on what is important. When we were looking for a Raman spectrometer for our lab, we wanted something where both hardware and software were tailored specifically for gem testing, where unnecessary elements were either hidden or removed. After seeing a demonstration of the GemmoRaman, we were hooked. Not only is the physical design pure and elegant, but this carries over to the software. The GemmoRaman is made by gemologists for gemologists. We recommend it without reservation.”

“I appreciate the compact yet very powerful capabilities of the GemmoRaman equipment. Though we already have Raman equipment, when we saw the expanded photoluminescence abilities of the GemmoRaman I knew Stone Group Labs needed it to complement the rest of our lab equipment. Not only can it identify thousands of different gem and mineral types, it can perform diagnostic functions. For me the imperative part of the GemmoRaman was knowing what’s inside….what you don’t see. Having the best engine under the bonnet is what this robust machine is about. That’s the important part.”

“We met Alberto and Mikko many years ago in Tucson as they were developing the database for the Gemmoraman. We were so happy to work with them providing known samples of the rare and unusual to firm up their library. Since that time, the purchase of the Gemmoraman has paid for itself many times over. There have been many instances of this powerful equipment being indispensable so let me give one example. Oftentimes, artisanal miners in the field cannot separate different mineral species especially if there is no crystal form so similar colors are packaged together in parcels. One particular example was checking a parcel of kornerupine that had a few hitchhikers. Before the Gemoraman was in use, a few stones from this parcel were cut and sold as kornerupine. On discovery that one of these stones was a tourmaline, every rough and cut stone from this parcel was checked with very surprising results. There were a few beryls, apatites, and even a piece of glass. The ability to check both faceted stones as well as gem rough for identification is a huge benefit of the equipment. Prior to this, stones would have to be cut, polished, and then checked with standard gemological tests. Because this is a time-consuming process, every stone was not checked, only if something looked “off”. With the Gemmoraman, it is simple quick, and accurate. It is also very compact and portable. We now carry it with us to Tucson for the annual shows not only to double-check our own stones but to confirm any newcomers during the shows.”

Liviano Soprani

“I started my work as a Gemologist in 1996 after obtaining my diploma, my passion for gems and gemology pushed me to open my analysis laboratory and a precious stone cutting shop, I immediately equipped my laboratory with the best instruments on the market, but the advent of synthetic diamond pushed me to look for something more, scientific instruments for advanced analysis that could give all the answers I needed, but the price of these instruments immediately revealed itself very high, until I discovered MagiLabs, who created specific gemological instruments at a truly competitive price, they are practical, fast and extremely reliable, equipped with specific software made specifically for gemological analysis laboratories, I purchased EXA, GemmoFtir, and GemmoSphere, and they are one better than the other, but their greatest advantage is still the software with a huge spectra database that is extremely easy to use. Mikko and Alberto were also great at training me on how to use every single tool I purchased.”

Lisa Elser

Lisa Elser

“In my work as a gem cutter selling to the trade I buy rough gems from all over the world. My home lab was small, and it can be not easy to make some separations in rough, especially when the sellers aren’t open to my polishing a window. My GemmoRaman already paid for itself when I was able to confirm a couple of questionable rough parcels and return a few more that were not as represented. More than this, though, my own comfort in buying from artisanal miners who often don’t know what they have, and in selling my work on has been dramatically increased. The GemmoRaman is so fast and easy to use that I now just test every gem I buy instead of just sampling from the parcels.”

Susanne Pirsig

“The gemological conference in Vienna in the spring of 2018 brought the “game changer” for me: Alberto and Mikko presented their ingenious devices there. The new technical possibilities of gemstone analysis immediately aroused my enthusiasm. The Gemmoraman and the EXA are now important parts of my laboratory equipment. They ease my daily work in appraising jewelry as a publicly appointed and sworn expert. The broad spectrum of possibilities to get reliable results in examing gemstones with Magilabs spectrometers is really impressive. If one possibility is limited, you receive an outcome with one of the others. Besides, what I never thought to be possible: finally I have a „soft spot“ for physics now.

Thanks to Alberto and Mikko for their great inventions in Gemology!”

“My work has drastically changed since I started using the Gemmoraman. My workflow has become so much more efficient in the determination of gemstones and of course the detecting of treatments and synthetics. The Gemmoraman also gives me a possibility to attach a scientific reading as proof to an appraisal or expertise, and to keep the reading on file, which for me is very important. Before my purchase I had looked at so many different raman spectrometers, but there was no comparison. I always landed back at the MAGI website. The Gemmoraman is a sturdy, precise and reliable piece of equipment with an outstanding client and update service. The portability of this unit by the way is quite remarkable, and suits my needs perfectly.”

“After attending SSEF advanced gemological equipment training, I started looking for a Raman system. I discovered that the GemmoRaman-532 was the only Raman unit in its price/performance class. Other units either cost much more, which I couldn’t afford, or they were cheaper but less complete, with user comments indicating they weren’t well integrated, or didn’t have a good database, or lacked cohesive software.

I purchased the GemmoRaman-532. I think it’s the best solution for members of the trade who do gem IDs but aren’t using Raman now because of the price tag. The system operates reliably, and its results are verifiable. The hardware and software work well together. The database is usable and updated often. The system is integrated with RRUFF, and that has been a great benefit. It takes time to master a Raman system, and units that are more expensive do things this Raman doesn’t, but this one does what I need it to do at a cost I could handle.”
